Symposium

Researchers are invited to submit their proposal that addresses many diversified theme in technological advents promoting economical viable development in future include and are not limited to the following topics:

Types of Submission:

Full/Regular Research Papers (maximum of 7 pages):

Regular Research Papers should provide detail original research contributions. They must report research results that represent a contribution to the field; sufficient details and support for the results and conclusions should also be provided.

Short Research Papers (maximum of 4 pages):

Short Research Papers report on ongoing research projects. They should provide overall research methodologies with some results. The work presented in short papers are expected to be at a stage of maturity that with some additional work can be published as regular papers.

Extended Abstract/Poster Papers (maximum of 2 pages):

Poster papers report on ongoing research projects that are still in their infancy (i.e., at very early stages). Such papers tend to provide research methodologies without yet concrete results.
All papers should adhere to the IEEE paper format.

Important Dates:
12 March 2017 : Paper submission.
15 March 2017 : Notification of Acceptance
21 March 2017 : Paper and poster presentation






Round 2: Rapid Fire Round 

  • Each team will be asked as many questions as possible one after another in one minute of time.
  • 10 marks for the correct answer and negative 5 marks for the wrong answer
  • Team discussion is allowed
  • If a team cannot answer the question, they can say pass for the next question. The question will not be forwarded to the next team.

Round 3: Buzzer Round
  • A question will be fired & the team who presses the buzzer first gets to answer first.
  • 10 marks for the correct answer and negative 5 marks for the wrong or if a team doesn’t answer after pressing the buzzer.
  • Unanswered questions will not be forwarded.
  • Answering time is only 05 seconds
Round 4: Visual round
  • Teams will be shown clips and will have to answer.  
  • 10 marks for each correct answer.
  • Each Team would be asked 2 visual questions. ( 1 slide in each round )
  • Visuals include hardware images, logos of Computer related product manufacturing companies etc.,
  • Answering time is only 20 seconds.
  • No passing to the next  team. Audience can answer.

Poster Presentation Rules
General Rules:
  • A team shall consist of max two students and only one team from each participating college can participate.
  • Your work should be original and in the specified format.
  • Kindly send an abstract of your poster not exceeding 500 words with proper titles, subtitles, references, keywords, etc. in ‘PDF’ format and the poster in ‘PDF’ or ‘JPEG’ format.
  • Candidates should send their abstract & poster in soft copy to our mail id techfest2017.ibr@cas.edu.om
  • Spot entries are not allowed.
  • Accepted posters will be intimated through author’s respective mail id.
  • Decision of the judges and the event heads shall be treated as final and binding on all and cannot be contested.
  • Directly copying from the internet is strongly discouraged and will not be entertained.
  • All participants will get participation certificates.

Presentation Rules:
  • The poster submitted will have to be presented during the event.
  • Hard copy of the same should be exhibited at the event venue.
  • The teams will get 5-6 minutes to present their poster.
  • It will be followed by a question and answer session.
  • Violation of any rule can result in rejection of the poster.

Poster Format Rules:
  • Poster size is to be strictly 100 cms(height) X 80 cms(width).
  • Cite sufficient data and explain the main point of your arguments

Programming Contest Rules
  • A team shall consist of max three students and only one team from each participating college can participate.
  • Each team will be allowed to use only a single computer and must write and test their programs on that machine, wholely within the contest room.
  • All teams will be given the same set of problems to solve.
  • Contestants cannot bring any notes or textbooks to the contest room. Blank sheets of paper and pencils will be supplied.
  • Referees will be assigned to observe teams throughout the contest and report any problems and/or violations of the rules to the Contest Committee.
  • Contestants in the same team can discuss the problems they are assigned. However, they should do so in a quiet way and without disturbing contestants in other teams.
  • Problem solutions may be coded in C,C++ or Java.

Data Modelling Contest Rules
  • A team shall consist of max three students and only one team from each participating college can participate.
  • Each team will be allowed to use only a single computer and must write and test their programs on that machine, wholely within the contest room.
  • The competition is composed of three rounds as follows,

First Round (preliminary)
  • If number of participants (teams) is very high, all students must sit for a written exam.
  • The score of team members is accumulated to obtain the team’s score.
  • The 5 teams with highest accumulated score will go on to the next round.
  • If any students attempts to cheat, the whole team will be disqualified
Second Round (Database Design)
  • All teams are given a scenario to model
  • Teams have one hour to finish their tasks (draw an ERD for the given scenario).
  • A committee (3 instructors) will evaluate the ERDs.
  • The best 4 teams will go to the final round.
  • Final Round (Database Implementation)
  • Each team implements their ERD.
  • Teams can choose any available DBMS, such as MySQL, Oracle, Access, SQLite, etc to implement the ERD
  • The committee will meet once again to select the best database.
  

TechFest’2017

Technical Quiz Rules

1. A team shall consist of max two students and only one team from each participating college can participate.
2. The decision of the quiz-master will be final and will not be subjected to any change.
3. Participants shall not be allowed to use mobile or other electronic instruments.
4. Questions shall be in the form of multiple choice, True / False
statement, Visuals, Specific-answer question etc.
5. Audience shall not give any hints or clues to the competitors.

Elimination Round

1. Each team would be given a set of question paper containing       20 multiple choice objective type questions.
2. Time limit - 20 minutes.
3. Only 6 Teams would be selected for final stage rounds.
4. In case of tie between 2 or more teams, further 5 questions         would be asked for final selection.
5. The selected teams shall have to appear for the final round.

Final Quiz – Stage Rounds
Round 1 :
A question will be asked to a team and if they are unable to answer, it will be passed to the next team - Rounds 2

1. Each team would be asked 2 questions each.(Objective type or specific answer questions)
2. 10 marks for each correct answer.
3. If a team cannot answer the question, they can pass the question & then the question would be forwarded to the next team.
4. Answering time is only 20 seconds.
5. Team discussion is allowed.
